I use a combination of insight-oriented therapy and cognitive behavioral approaches. Insight-oriented therapy is an approach that looks at how your past relationships and behaviors inform your current relationships and patterns of interactions. The counseling relationship provides a safe place for exploring and identifying the sources of your behavioral and emotional patterns. Becoming aware of these patterns allows you to make changes when your behaviors and ways of relating to others are no longer working for you. By making these changes you can lead a more authentic life and have richer relationships.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy looks at the relationship between our thoughts and our emotions and behaviors and how changing our thought processes can lead to changes in our emotional experiences. This approach uses structured activities and techniques that can provide more immediate symptom relief.
At times I will incorporate other therapeutic approaches as appropriate for your particular situation. The length of treatment time is determined on an individual basis, depending upon your needs and goals.
